Grief & Loss Counselling in Coquitlam

In-person in Coquitlam, or online anywhere in British Columbia

Grief is not a problem to be fixed — it is the natural response to losing something or someone that mattered deeply. Yet grief can become isolating, exhausting and disorienting, especially when it lasts longer than the people around you expect.

When grief feels too heavy to carry alone

You may be grieving the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, a diagnosis, the loss of a role or identity, or a future you had imagined. Grief can show up as sadness, anger, numbness, guilt, relief, anxiety, or physical symptoms like fatigue and insomnia — sometimes all at once, and often in waves that arrive without warning.

Well-meaning people may suggest you should "move on" or that enough time has passed. In grief counselling, there is no timeline you must meet. Your grief is unique, and it deserves a space where it can be witnessed without judgment.

How grief counselling can help

Together we work at your pace to help you make room for your loss while slowly rebuilding a life that still holds meaning. Grief counselling may help you:

  • Understand and express your grief in ways that feel safe
  • Work through guilt, regret, anger or unfinished business
  • Navigate anniversaries, holidays and difficult reminders
  • Find ways to honour and stay connected to what you lost
  • Rebuild routines, identity and hope for the future
  • Recognise signs of complicated grief that benefit from extra support

A gentle, evidence-informed approach

I draw on compassion-focused approaches, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to support grieving clients. When grief is entangled with trauma, such as after a sudden or violent loss, trauma-informed methods including Lifespan Integration and IFS can also be part of the work.

Frequently asked questions

How long does grief counselling take?

There is no fixed timeline. Some people find clarity and relief within a few sessions; others benefit from longer support, especially after a complex or traumatic loss. We review your goals together and you are always in control of the pace.

Do you offer online grief counselling outside Coquitlam?

Yes. As a Registered Clinical Counsellor licensed to practise in British Columbia, I offer secure video sessions to clients anywhere in BC, so you can receive grief support from home wherever you live in the province.

My loss happened years ago. Is it too late to get help?

Not at all. Grief can resurface or become stuck at any point, especially after new losses, life transitions or anniversaries. It is never too late to give old grief the attention it needs.
